Topical Treatments:

Corticosteroids are the most commonly prescribed medicine for psoriasis and are used mainly to treat mild to moderate cases. They work by reducing inflammation & slowing the growth and build-up of skin cells.
In addition vitamin D-3 derivatives, coal tar & moisterizers are used alone or in combination. Unfortunately there isn't one topical drug that is best for all people with psoriasis. Each drug has a particular adverse reaction or loses its potency with individuals so it is common to rotate them. In fact, many topical preparations may be combined together which may provide added potency.
The overview from all current research is that most topical treatments are somewhat effective in reducing the symptoms of psoriasis but none actually cures psoriasis!
